Teton Reservoir
Located in Wyoming
Teton Reservoir is a man-made reservoir located in the Teton Valley in eastern Idaho, near the border with Wyoming. Despite its name, it is not actually located in Wyoming, but rather in Caribou County, Idaho.
The reservoir was created in 1976 with the construction of the Teton Dam on the Teton River. However, just two years later, in 1978, the dam catastrophically failed, leading to massive flooding and the deaths of 11 people. As a result, the dam was rebuilt in the late 1970s and early 1980s, along with additional safety features, and the reservoir was refilled.
Today, Teton Reservoir is a popular destination for boating, fishing, and camping. The reservoir is stocked with fish including rainbow trout, cutthroat trout, and kokanee salmon, and there are several boat ramps and campgrounds around the reservoir. The area around the reservoir is also popular for hiking, wildlife viewing, and other outdoor activities.
